Celebrating the life of

Jay M. Young

August 31, 1951 - March 11, 2025

Jay M. Young

Jay M. Young, 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Memorial University Medical Center.

Born in Australia to a military family, he grew up in Englewood, NJ, and eventually made his home in Savannah.

Jay was known for his generosity and passion for animals, especially cats. He loved woodworking and antique cars and enjoyed watching football.

Jay kept up with the latest technology and loved building computers. An avid fish enthusiast, he maintained six aquariums that he cared for with great attention. In addition, he enjoyed gardening and took pride in decorating his home for Christmas, often trying to outdo his neighbors. Jay deeply appreciated classical music, and his favorite Broadway Musical was "Hamilton."

Jay was a retired U.S. Army veteran who served honorably during his career. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Surviving are his daughters, Dawn and Jaime Young; two stepchildren, Kenna and Aaron Aubuchon; six grandchildren, Paulze Stevens, Alexander Aubuchon, Sammy Aubuchon, Mark Aubuchon, Bruce Aubuchon, and Ezekiel Robertson; two brothers, Quinton and D. Scott Young; a sister, M. Gwen Young; former wife and lifelong friend, Lydia Stone; and his adopted family Shawna Silverman, Jayson Hammer and Maxwell Silver Hammer.

Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. The family will receive friends for one hour before the service. Burial with full military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. in Beaufort National Cemetery on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you consider donating in Jay’s memory to a Veteran’s Mental Health and/or Disability organization.
